Leanne L. Burns, PT, MPT has over 30 years experience in Physical Therapy.  She received her undergraduate degree in Biomechanics / Movement Science from Western Washington University where she was active in gait and sports analysis research.  She then received her commission in the US Army to attend the US Army Baylor Physical Therapy Program where she graduated with a Master of Physical Therapy degree in 1986.

After four years treating acute orthopedic injuries and stress fractures in the military (US Army), Leanne began working in the civilian sphere in outpatient orthopedics.  She quickly saw a need for biomechanics training to recover from injuries and to prevent further injuries.  Leanne regularly teaches a behavorial-based Back School, Neck-Arm School, and "Bellies, Bottoms, and Backs" (pregnancy back school).  In the community, she has been a guest speaker for ergonomics, workplace safety, and for osteoporosis education.

In addition, Leanne is a Certified Ergonomics Assessment Specialist (CEAS), performing Work Risk Analysis and Ergonomic training for local and state industries.  She has been member of the Onslow Safety Council and regularly spoke on Industrial Safety.

Leanne treats a wide variety of clients including general orthopedic patients, TMJ dysfunctions, Osteoporosis, and BPPV.  Her clinical passion is in evaluation / treatment of the sacro-iliac joint and hip region.  A close second is rehabilitation of ACL reconstructions and other post-operative conditions of the knee and shoulder.  She is also highly skilled and has years of experience in the application of various manual therapy techniques including Strain and Counterstrain and Hesch Method.  She is a certified "Rock Doc" and is practiced in applying Fascial Movement Taping using Rock Tape kinesiology tape.

Leanne has worked in Jacksonville since 1992; she became partner in The Physical Therapy Clinic, Inc. in 1994 (now Axis Physical Therapy), and then owner in 1996.  She has served on the Jacksonville-Onslow Small Business Council for over 10 years leading the development of the Small Business Code of Ethics in 2002.  She is passionate about healthcare enrichment and community improvement in Onslow County.

Leanne is an active member of the Americal Physical Therapy Association,  the North Carolina Physical Therapy Association, and the North Carolina Independently Practicing Physical Therapists (NC IPPT) group. 

Leanne recently became a Certified Dry Needling Practitioner through the American Academy of Manipulative Therapy.
