Julia S. Heflin, PT, DPT

Certified Dry Needling Practitioner (Cert DN)

Julia Heflin, PT, DPT is a Washington native and has traveled the world with her military family since 1993 (age 8). Camp Lejeune was her mother’s first duty station. Her travels have provided priceless opportunities to learn about different cultures and to live overseas. After graduating high school in Pensacola, FL, she moved to Tampa, FL for college in 2003. She became very active in the fitness industry during her college years, becoming a personal trainer and also competed in a Figure Competition in 2004. She received her undergraduate degree in Biomedical Sciences in 2007 from the University of South Florida, but decided not to pursue medical school as planned. Fate brought her to VA, where her mother was stationed, and she met her husband, Lloyd, in 2008. During frequent moves with her husband (USCG), she was active in the fitness industry, youth/HS soccer, working as nurses aide in skilled nursing/home setting and volunteering in the community. In 2010, Julia decided to pursue physical therapy after her experience as a patient recovering from a back injury. In 2013, she began her graduate studies in New Orleans, LA and graduated as a Doctor of Physical Therapy from Louisiana State University in 2016. She has worked in the orthopedic and homecare settings during her career in Ohio, SC, and now NC.

After the birth of her son, Owen (6), Julia worked part-time, but decided to stay home full-time during his toddler and pre-school years. She recently joined the Axis team in October 2023 after moving to the area.

Julia treats a wide variety of clients including general orthopedic patients, patients with balance disorders, and chronic pain.  She is a Certified Dry Needling Specialist through AAMT and plans to gain further certifications in vestibular disorders, manual therapy techniques, and sports rehabilitation. One day, she would love to rehabilitate dogs and other domestic animals. Her Bernedoodle, Sadie Mae (2), is training to be a therapy dog in the near future.

When Julia isn't seeing patients, she enjoys time at home with her family, traveling, cooking/baking, spending time in nature, playing kickball or soccer, and relaxing with friends.
